How to check PNR status of train ticket?

Pnrstatus.io Explains: Here’s how to check your train reservation status using your PNR number. You have booked your ticket either physically or online by Using it on to the IRCTC website, but it is not confirmed yet. You have a few hours left for boarding your train, and in such a situation, you will want to know the status of your booked ticket. It is the PNR status that provides all the information you need.

What is PNR number?

The PNR (Passenger Name Record) is a unique 10-digit number provided by the Indian Railways against every booked train ticket. Whether you physically book your train ticket at a ticket counter or online, each ticket has a PNR number. When booked online, a unique number is mentioned on the ticket or sent over SMS to the passenger.

What does PNR number provide?

A PNR number provides the passenger details (name, age, gender, birth preference etc.); Ticket details (train no., Date of journey, boarding station, till reservation, coach no, class, berth, quota, etc.); Transaction or payment details etc.

Apart from these details, the most important information that a PNR number can provide relates to the status of your reservation.

  • CNF – Confirmed Status
  • WL – Waiting List Status
  • RAC – Reservation Against Cancellation Status
  • CAN – Cancelled Status
  • GNWL – General Waiting List Status
  • TQWL – Tatkal Waiting List Status
  • PQWL – Pooled Quota List Status
  • RLWL – Remote Location Waiting List Status
  • NR – No Room Status
  • NOSB – No seat berth Status etc.

CNF means that you have a reserved reservation – your berth is confirmed. You can travel comfortably.

WL means that you are in the queue to get a reserved reservation, only if the people ahead of you (in the queue or with confirmed tickets) cancel your booking. If in the last chart, your position is WL or PNR shows the position WL, then you cannot board the train. A passenger’s WL ticket can be cancelled 30 minutes before the train leaves. If the WL ticket is not confirmed, it is automatically cancelled when it is booked online.

RAC means that the passenger is allowed to travel and two passengers share the same berth, which is usually a side lower berth in a coach. If a certain passenger does not board the train, a full berth is allotted to the passenger with the RAC ticket. A RAC position passenger has a better probability of having a fixed reservation.

CAN means a passenger seat has been cancelled.

GNWL tickets are confirmed after passengers cancel their confirmed booking.

TQWL means that when a passenger who has made a Tatkal is put on the waiting list. This ticket has the least chance of confirmation.

PQWL means passengers traveling between intermediate stations and a waiting list separate from the standard waiting list.

Confirmation is more likely in RLWL. Smaller stations have separate quota of seats and berths. Waiting at these intermediate stations is rated RLWL.

NR means no further bookings are allowed with NR tickets.

The NOSB is for children under 12 and the child’s fare is paid, and seats are not allocated. In such cases, PNR status shows NOSB.
